Get to know the history of Pro Football Weekly
In 1967 Arthur Arkush – a devout football fan and veteran sportswriter – had a vision: He believed that football was poised to become America’s Game. To provide fans with the information unavailable anywhere else, he created something unheard of at the time – a weekly news magazine dedicated exclusively to coverage of pro football.
Arkush was right. The popularity of professional football and the NFL has exploded over the last 50 years. Today, Pro Football Weekly is one of the sport’s most recognized multimedia brands.
Hub Arkush succeeded his father as publisher and editor in 1979 and launched the PFW radio and TV platforms in 1987 and 1988, respectively. Hub has been a staple on TV and radio for decades, including 18 seasons as the radio color commentator for the Chicago Bears. Today, Hub remains the driving force behind PFW. He also serves as the professional football expert for WSCR Radio in Chicago and is a sideline reporter for Westwood One’s Sunday Night Football.
